Introduction
EpiHandy makes gathering of survey data easy through the user-friendly, transparent and effective technology that enables researchers to prepare, collect, and interpret data faster and easier than ever before. Almost immediate availability of collected data improves accuracy of surveys and thereby also decision-making and efficiency.
EpiHandy utilizes the advantages of new mobile technology to improve data collection and handling processes. It has built-in validation and cross-checking features, including skipping and branching and multi-language surveys can be designed with maximum reuse of translations.
EpiHandy has been developed at the Centre for International Health, University of Bergen, Norway in response to problems faced in management of relief operations / research in remote rural areas of Ethiopia, were great problems in obtaining reliable and updated data were faced.
Traditional methods of data collection and handling have several disadvantages. Paper forms cause duplication of processes, lack of efficiency and validation and no means of branching control at point of collection. Similarly web and e-mail forms require the user to be online for submission.
